Is your blog in the chrysalis or butterfly state? The answer to this question could help you make decisions that could explode your blog’s popularity.

Conversely, not asking this question may severely limit your blog’s potential.

According to a recent post at Skelliewag, there are two stages that define how you promote your blog.

They are the butterfly or the chrysalis.

Here are the distinguishing features:

Chrysalis

  1. Fewer than 500 subscribers. I don’t include daily traffic as a criteria because it’s not a good indication of how engaged your audience is. Good SEO, for example, does not guarantee good content. Just look at the results for a search on ‘Make Money Online’…
  2. Trouble getting more than a few comments on your posts.

Butterfly

  1. More than 500 subscribers.

There are also specific steps to take depending on which stage your at. They are:

For the chrysalis stage:

  • Comment a few times on blogs in your niche to show your expertise.
  • Guest post as much as possible on the most popular blogs in your niche.
  • Create value-packed content and pitch the links to popular blogs.
  • Make friends and connections on your chosen social media profile.

For the butterfly stage:

  • Concentrate on making great content.
  • Continue to pitch links at the most popular blogs.
  • Guest post ONLY on highly-trafficked and highly-targeted blogs.
  • Allow the fans you’ve cultivated in the chrysalis stage to do the bulk of your promotion.

It is absolutely essential that you recognize when you have moved from chrysalis to butterfly. Otherwise, your blog may stagnate in popularity as you pursue promotional methods which work best for the chrysalis but have a marginal impact on a butterfly stage blog.

One of the most helpful things for a newbie internet marketer and blogger is to be able to gauge where they are at and to know what they should be doing to maximize their chances for success.

Where is your blog at? Have you been in the butterfly stage forever without knowing it? Leave me a comment below and please share this article if you liked it.
